About 4 months, I tried marijuana for the first time. Problem was, I was also drunk. I’m pretty young, about 17 years old and after that night, my sleep wasn’t the same. It gradually got worse to the point where I now don’t really get deep relaxed sleep. I have middle of the night awakenings and in the mornings, I wake up too early and toss and turn. I just never feel or look rested, and I’m scared that I’ve somehow broken my mind to the point where it can’t sleep in that deep relaxed state anymore. I’m so tired of this, and I feel so stupid for ever doing what I did. I just hope there’s some way out.

Forgot to mention ^ I used to be a really strong sleeper. Like, it would be insanely difficult to get me up in the mornings but now I react to every little sound and I’m already pretty much awake in the morning.

Your insomnia doesn’t sound unique or unusual — it was once triggered by something and is now being kept alive by a change in your sleep-related behaviors and/or a change in your relationship with your thoughts and feelings.

Ultimately, we put insomnia behind us by being OK with having insomnia — because if we can get there, we stop trying to control sleep and we focus attention instead on living the kind of life we want to live regardless of how we sleep.

I hope there’s something helpful here!
