I discovered that a lot of my folks have trouble sleeping. They have rationalized that it is part of their aging process and it is getting worse for them as they get older. My 65 year old aunt for example, sleeps only a few hours a night and attributes it to aging. She does complain about daytime fatigue, but does not necessarily attribute it to the fact she has not been sleeping enough. I was told, since I’m in my late 40s that the same thing has started happening to me and I cannot do anything about it. Could all of my folks be wrong and could they just be experiencing some sort of sleep anxiety that is preventing them from getting enough sleep?

As we get older we typically generate less sleep (and less deep sleep, too). That doesn’t mean we’re destined to struggle with sleep as we get older, just that sleep changes as we get older.
