As soon as you lie in bed and become anxious, what is going through your mind? If you feel you’re able to fall asleep rather quickly where you read at night but become anxious when you go to bed, you’ve learned to associate your bed with wakefulness, anxiousness and angry feelings. All of these unpleasant thoughts and feelings make sleep more difficult to achieve. The good news is that just as your mind developed a conditioned arousal between your bed and these negative feelings, it can be unlearned too. It sounds like you’re using the right queues to get out of bed and do something more enjoyable and returning to bed only when you’re sleepy. Are you implementing a sleep window with that technique also?
