ive had insomnia for about 5 months, with it coming and going with how bad it is, and this week has been really bad, with only having 2-4 hours sleep per night.

what i cant handle is the sheer boredom of being awake and not being able to sleep. im awake but all i can think about is how much i want to be not be awake anymore anymore. i no energy to do anything (reading, writing, whatever im actually allowed to do) because im just so exhausted and sick of this and it feels like a never ending nightmare, so i just sit in my living room in the pitch black.

i cant stop thinking about back when i just didnt have insomnia and this just wasnt a problem in my life, but no matter how much i remind myself “i cannot control sleep i dont decide when i will fall asleep” im still wide awake. the most i do is eventually get up n go back to bed like a yo yo but the fact this is my 3rd time relapsing is it even working? at this point i feel like im going to become an alcoholic as wine is the only thing that will guarantee to put me to sleep.

      please please help me

Sometimes the more we try to control our thoughts and feelings the more we might struggle — because we just cannot control our minds.

Since it sounds as though you haven’t found it possible to stop thinking, perhaps a different approach might be worthwhile? An approach where you acknowledge and allow all the thoughts and feelings your mind chooses to generate, for example? This might help remove you from the struggle and free up some energy and attention so you can do things that might be more meaningful and important to you.

In terms of the boredom of the night, since we always have control over our actions I wonder if it might be worth spending a bit of time exploring any potential activities you could do instead of dealing with boredom all night and battling with your mind all night? Such activities don’t necessarily need to feel fun — they might simply be more appealing compared to the alternative!
