I’ve been suffering with insomnia now for over a year due to having too much adrenaline in my body but I got that under control through deep relaxation(Meditation, deep breathing etc) but I’m still suffering from light shallow sleep each night.

This is a major problem because it create physical symptoms like headaches, muscle twitching, heart palpitations and most of all chronic fatigue, my main strategy has been to implement sleep restriction but the main problem is that I have such an absurdly hard time getting up at my wake time and even then its hard to do anything.

I’ve been told that its just a matter of not paying it any attention or not making an issue of my light sleep but I have went this route of acceptance and not making an issue of it for a very long time and what I’ve noticed is that I simply just get the same light shallow sleep each night with no change its as if my body has just said well that’s all you need the bare minimum which is not acceptable because I can’t function with this amount nor can I deal with the physical symptoms.

I have a sleep window of 1:00 am to 7:00 am but often times I wake up at 8:30 am the times when I am able to get up at my actual wake up time later in the day I take a power nap of about 25 or 30 minutes it helps bring down the adrenaline in my body.

I’ve been to doctors about this the best they can do is prescribe every sleep pill known to man
which I have tried but not anymore I’m not gonna take something if there’s no results.

The only time I get any results is when I can stay awake longer which is pretty simple concept the longer awake the greater need to sleep but for me its more like I get tired and not that sleepy feeling ever I think it takes many nights and days of sleep deprivation.

If anyone can read this entirely and really come up with a solution of how to increase sleep drive please let me know.

You went to the experts who gave you all sorts of advice and medications, none worked so what makes you think anyone here can help you without even seeing you in person? The only thing I can say is you are spending too much time in bed (1 am – 830 am) plus naps, the longer it is, the lighter the sleep tends to get. Also, what is your definition of light sleep? How do you know you have it? Have you done a sleep study (polysomnography)?

Well I don’t consider them experts if all they can do is push sleep pills and that has been their one and only approach which is lazy but not surprising to me,I came here because at least
there are people suffering from the very same issue and maybe there will be someone who maybe spots something I’m not seeing, its very hard for someone as doctors to under stand what a chronic insomnia condition is like if they haven’t experienced it themselves because I’m not talking about one or two nights of bad sleep this is repeated nights of the very same thing.

As for the light sleep I know simply for many reasons one of which is I’m awake for most of the night in a semi awake state but that’s not the point even if I had a sleep study and it said I’m sleeping deeply what does it matter if I fatigued all day and have no energy it can say whatever it wants but I know if I was getting deep restorative sleep that my energy levels
          would be up.

Also one question do you suffer from chronic sleep problems like getting to sleep or waking
in the middle of night because I’ve been a long time lurker on here and have seen you reply to many topics people have started and advice you’ve given people of just accepting and letting
go but was wondering if you were a regular posters that is suffering or someone that has overcame the sleep disorder and is more of a coach just curious.

I highly doubt anyone here can help you with your problem because I believe nobody is an “expert” on sleep except Martin, well he’s got some certs or something under his belt. Speaking about your “light sleep” problem, there’s another person too who purportedly has the same problem as you: Jess84. Maybe you both are the same person so why are you flooding this forum with the questions, asking endlessly about the same stuffs for years. If you aren’t her, then go to that thread and see if you can find anything helpful, though I highly doubt it.

Really don’t appreciate your unfounded accusations based on ignorance,I came here in the hopes of finding someone who could maybe identify with the problem of light shallow sleep but instead got you immediately discouraging me from even seeking help here kind of ridiculous considering that the site is for support and help not to be talked down to
by another poster that seems to think they know it all and have all the quick fixes yet is constantly on here which would suggest they haven’t made any progress themselves but still insist on telling all the other posters how easy it all is and how if you do A,B and C you’ll be fine.

Also one last thing flooding the site as I said long time lurker first time poster pretty ironic that the one person that is constantly on here and replies to literally every other topic in the most condescending way is accusing a new first time poster of flooding the site lol.

Point is I came here looking for people in the same situation as myself to exchange ideas not be supportive not be given a lecture by someone that from the sounds of it haven’t gotten over their own sleep issues.
