I’ve been struggling with insomnia for almost 2 months now- not as long as other people, but it definitely feels like its been far too long for someone my age (I’m in my late 20’s). Some weeks are better than others, but I have yet to have a night where I haven’t needed to take some form of crutch to help me fall asleep. Whether it be prescribed medicine, melatonin, or other things- I want to shake the need to get medicine but I also haven’t slept consistently for long enough on the medicine that I wonder if I need to give it a week or two straight to try and get back on a schedule and ultimately shake it off after? Has anyone been able to easily do this? Tips and tricks please- it is hard to let go of this crutch when I can’t seem to shut my mind off otherwise and fall asleep.

        Hi @dsvhalez

Welcome to the forum! What’s going through your mind that prevents you from sleeping? Can you describe what an average night of sleep is for you? Over-the-counter supplements and prescribed medication for sleep rarely have a good long-term outcome since neither of them can generate sleep. Since you’re motivated to eliminate your dependency on those, have you considered exploring CBT-I techniques?

I can totally relate! My insomnia has started 2 months ago from one night where I got 0 hours of sleep, and now it’s been on going from restless nights. I have been taking sleeping medicine for about 6 years cause I fear that I won’t sleep without it. I just hope cbt for insomnia will help me sleep better without meds! You got this and we will get through this together!! Good luck ??
