I don’t know if I necessarily have insomnia, I’ve never been diagnosed with it. I ranch for a living, so I work long, inconsistent hours with a lot of physical exertion. I also started working part time at another farm a few weeks ago. For the part time job, I have to get up at 4ish. I am a very heavy sleeper and always have been. But it has gotten to a point where I’m afraid I’m not going to make it to the job on time. As in hours late. I have a smart timer hooked up to my lamp to turn it on a half hour before I wake up and I have several alarms on my phone with loud, jarring music to help me wake up. I’ve tried going to sleep a little earlier, but I can’t seem to get to sleep and lay awake for a good while, and I’m afraid if I take medication to get to sleep it’ll make it even harder to wake up. I think I might be turning off my alarms in my sleep, but if I put them farther away I won’t hear them. Or maybe I just sleep that hard. The last two days I’ve worked I’ve got up when I’m supposed to leave and I’ve been a few minutes late. Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to wake up in the morning? I’m at a complete loss

It sounds as though you have a lot of understandable concern about missing your alarm in the morning! It also sounds as though you’ve done all you can to reduce the risk of sleeping through your alarm.

So, perhaps the final piece of the puzzle might be to move away from trying to fight or avoid thoughts related to missing your alarm (and perhaps to practice acknowledging and allowing those thoughts instead) and to move away from any pressure you might be putting on yourself to fall asleep.

Other than that, in terms of further reducing the risk of missing your alarm is there anyone who can call on you in the mornings? Either physically or perhaps through a phone call?

I am not a deep sleeper but I have the same fear of hearing the alarm sound. If I don’t turn it up high enough I also worry that I won’t hear it. I’m not sure how to get rid of the alarm phobia. I tried exposing myself to alarm sounds. Tonight I am trying a song for the alarm.

Not sure still what to do.
