Hi all,
I haven't been on in a long time, probably because I'm sleeping now. What a beautiful thing. I've now cut down to a half of an ambien a night, and then I will go to a fourth and then I will be off of it. I still sleep just fine… for now. Knock on wood. I had 5-6 straight months of almost no sleep (1-3 hours a night), and now I can see some glass half full stuff. My lowest low has made my highs feel even higher. Within a week of taking Cymbalta my anxiety lessened and my sleep increased. It took four months of it to be back on a normalish schedule. Not only that, but the CBT I did has made it much easier to accept the nights I don't get much sleep, not to freak out, and to do more productive things than worry. It has improved my everyday life. I used to obsessively worry about everything, and now I have all these tricks and exercises to get back down to earth and look at things realistically. I graduated from college and got a puppy. Things are good. I've had sleep problems all my life (never as bad as they got last year though), and I finally feel some peace even when I don't sleep. I just wanted to let everyone know that it can happen, even if it's not happening now. Now that I feel all “zen” my life seems fuller, and even when I get a shitty night or two I think, “It could be worse. I could be back there.” I've started living life more, because I remember what it was like when I was too exhausted to get off the couch and go for a walk. I remember what it was like to be so depressed from the chemical imbalance lack of sleep was giving me that I wanted a car to hit me as I walked across the road so I could get some fake sleep in the hospital. Every day I get a good sleep, I live it like it's never going to happen again, and it feels great!
It can get better. 🙂

Cherry I am so happy for you. After reading one of your posts about the CBT, I tried a couple of the things you wrote about. The one that has really helped me was telling myself that everything would be okay if I did not sleep well. I would tell myself that yes, I will be very tired, but it's only one day and that I would make it through the day. It really helped me to not get as anxious on sleepless nights. I have also been sleeping better..not perfect but good for me. I started taking 3mg of Melatonin per night every night as a daily supplement. I don't know if it is really working, but I am going to keep taking it. Congratulations on graduating! Are you still considering grad school? Also, congrats on your new puppy. What kind is he/she? The sleeping probs were just a tough period for you that made you mentally stronger in the long run. It sounds like everything is going wonderfully for you now:-)

My counselor did amazing things for me. I am still considering grad school. I'm going to start studying for the GRE very soon. Before I go to grad school, though, I am trying things out with my band. We've got talent, and continually get more fans each time we play, so I want to let this experience ride. Then I will apply. My puppy is a Maltese. His name is Chester Bennington and he is my fur baby. He has also helped with my sleep and mood. I've got him if I can't sleep, as he is always ready to play.
How are you? How is school? Have things gotten any better?
