I have read on another CBT-i board I am on that CBT-i does not work on 30% of the people who try it. I think that number is kind of high. I believe there are probably some people that it doesn’t work on. But I bet that 30% number includes those that don’t practice it faithfully, only try a couple of CBT-i principals, or give up after a week or two for whatever reason, and then say it didn’t work on them. Any thoughts on this from all of you out there?

“Rybarczyk, who has an 80 percent success rate with this treatment, believes that as many as 98 percent of chronic insomnia sufferers could benefit from it, though he says only those who are very persistent with their physicians find out about the treatment.”

I truly believe the success rate is much higher than 80% — but I guess it all depends on how you define “success”. Are we measuring sleep duration, sleep confidence, or something else?

Also, how is CBT-I being defined? Are we looking at specific components or a combination of components? Perhaps more importantly, how long is someone implementing CBT-I techniques (and how consistently are they implementing them) before we determine success or failure?

Stick with it Pam! It gets a bit easier as you go along. Why don’t you post of your experiences in the thread Support Thread for People Who Are Doing Sleep Restriction? We can give you the moral support in that thread.
