I completed Martin’s free sleep training course yesterday.
The previous seven days keeping the sleep diary were not fun at all – I slept worse than I normally do, only managing to get an average of five hours and twenty minutes sleep over the seven days.
I implemented my new sleep window last night and went to bed an hour later than I usually do and managed to six and a half hours sleep :).
Having learned that I cannot control sleep and all the other things from the training course have made such a difference to me mentally – I feel so calm and relaxed and I am not anxious about sleeping at all :).
I just wish I could have learned all of this a long time ago.

I too am liking and benefiting from the free sleep course. I’m on day 6, and have learned to get rid of my preconceived notions about sleep, change some of the habits which I thought were good, but actually are not, and actually change what I do around sleep.

I always thought sleep is supposed to come naturally, but didn’t realize that our sleep requirements change with age, and I had some expectations about sleep that actually affected my sleep. Worrying about sleep can make sleep harder. I didn’t know that.

I am now in the 4th week since completing the free sleep training course. I do not take my antihistamine at night any more “to help me sleep”, I fall asleep very quickly when I go to bed, when I wake up during the night I think I’m going back to sleep within half an hour – I’m certainly not aware of being awake for any length of time, so I haven’t had to practice stimulus control since 14 Dec. Physically and mentally I am feeling much better even though not getting more than six and a half hours sleep on a good night. I’m still struggling to stay awake until my bedtime, but now only start struggling with that about an hour later than I used to. I am hoping that as time goes by, the time I spend asleep will get longer. So all in all I’m very happy with my progress 🙂

Hi Martin, things are pretty much the same – I haven’t made any further progress, but I haven’t regressed either. I’m happy with the way things are though because I’m sleeping better and feeling better during the day and that was my goal when I signed up for the free sleep training course.
