I hope someone knows why does it happen, because doctors don’t.
Whenever I don’t sleep or sleep like 2-3 h tomorrow I have some kind of pain in the chest more like choking or feeling that I can’t breath normally more like feeling that someone stab a knife in my chest.
I did heart exams and all seem okay, judging by doctor except aritmiaas which were cause by my hiatus hernia.
So I suppose hiatus hernia is to blame.
But which doctor to visit for this?
Does anyone have same symptoms, because this is really scary and it is frightening me?
I have asthma too,but this feeling is more like hmm I have something object stab in the chest more below heart and I breath hardly.
I once asked gastroenterologists about it and he told me that there is issue with some ketolhoamines something like that and they cause to me all this hell.
      Dunno wtf is that…
Usually helps just 1.5 mg of bromazepam, probably it calms muscles in my stomach.

Hello, yes I am experiencing the same feeling at the moment – a stabbing feeling in my heart and also my heart beat feels a bit irregular, rushed every now and again.

Re the pain, it feels like what I have had before when I knew it was caused by anxiety. So I am trying to reassure myself that it’s most likely just that. I know I’m anxious about not sleeping!

If you’ve already had it checked out by heart specialists, then it may reassure you to read Daniel Erichsen’s ‘Why we don’t sleep’, which I just bought for 99p from Kindle. It’s a very quick read and the foreward says ‘sleep deprivation does not cause brain damage, heart problems or early death’.

I think it’s my stomach problem, probably stomach as a muscle is contracted and when you don’t sleep acid in stomach accumulates a lot, besides I have hiatus hernia so God knows what is causing me the pain.
But I’m sure it’s stomach but don’t know exact cause.
It hurts so much and I barely breath.

The reason for the tightness feeling in the chest or the feeling of someone standing on your chest is due to stress hormone being released into the blood stream from not sleeping this stresses the body and activates the fight or flight mechanism releasing adrenaline which causes muscles in the chest to contract giving the feeling of a tight chest.

This can also cause heart palpitations as well because the stress hormones travel to every organ in the body that’s why you can experience headaches, heart palps, tight chest etc because adrenaline has a different effect on every organ in the body.

The stress hormones will burn themselves out naturally but deep relaxation will speed up
the process because the adrenaline is a stress response because not sleeping stresses the body and can cause physical symptoms.

The last thing someone needs is heart meds or beta blockers that’s what a doctor tried to give me when I had heart palps because of stress, managing stress and obviously getting more sleep would resolve this.

If there is no other medical explanation for that chest sensation, it could be a symptom of physiological arousal.

It is, of course, essential to get any chest pain or other symptoms checked out by a doctor — but if there is no apparent cause, it’s almost certainly related to arousal (especially for those of us with chronic insomnia).
