      I cannot fall asleep and stay asleep. Brought on my severe anxiety and overactive mind sleep has been poor for years but I have barely slept atall these last 4 weeks sometimes awake most nights through to the morning its like my brain won’t let me go to sleep even though my anxiety seems to be under control at the moment. It’s horrible as not being able to sleep is affecting my life physically and mentally. The more I don’t sleep the more I’m anxious. Please help!

        Hi,

        The struggle we have with our anxious thoughts can certainly disrupt and diminish our sleep, as you’ve experienced. We can’t control what pops into our mind, but we usually fight those uncomfortable thoughts because they don’t feel good and are unhelpful. Those negative thoughts crave our attention but we CAN control how we respond to them when they arrive though. Instead of that tug-o-war with your thoughts, do you think there might be other activities you could engage in that would be more beneficial and enjoying?
