As helpful as i find it to not watch the clock at night, I also found it helpful not to obsess over the clock during the day. When I was in the thick of my insomnia I would spend every day morning noon and evening looking at the time dreading the time I would have to try and go to bed and resenting what I had temporarily lost. Now that I’m almost recovered I find it useful not to check the time too much when you don’t need to. There’s something freeing about going outside on a summer afternoon wasting a few hours, not caring when it will be time for dinner, or maybe just setting a timer to get ready for your work/class/appointment and then getting it out of your mind. i would do this and it would free me of the responsibility of having to constantly check the time. The point is I think clock watching is a 24-hour process and you don’t necessarily need to wait until nighttime to take an occasional break from it.

Some great insight here — isn’t it amazing how “the time” can completely dominate modern life? I remember when I lived on the coast and was able to surf relatively frequently — I often found myself sitting in the ocean atop my surfboard wondering what the time was, even though I had nowhere to be and nowhere to go!
