I mostly fall asleep easily at night, but I wake up, try to return to sleep with little success, read and again try to get back to sleep.
No electronics, no caffeine, no eating…
I get exercise, sunlight, go to bed and rise about the same times each day.
Some nights just two hours of sleep.
It has been a 50 year problem and seems to be getting worse.
Melatonin and Trazodone have not worked-Benadryl does work, but I am hesitant to use it too frequently.
Both my parents had sleep problems and sister, too.
A nurse recommended I try Insomnia Coach.

Exactly my life! Though only 40 years, unisome is only drug that has worked for me. I feel like I’ve tried them all, but I know Unisom Benadryl, etc. linked to Alzheimer’s. I’ve thrown away the Unisom because it’s just too tempting in the middle of the night. I get so desperate for sleep.

Hello Christina (and Cranky) and welcome to the forum!

Waking during the night is a normal part of sleep — so nothing unusual there. When we wake, if we (perhaps quite understandably!) start putting effort into trying to fall back to sleep, things can often start to get a bit more difficult.

In other words, perhaps it might be all the trying to sleep that might be making sleep seem all the more elusive?
