      I am a 76 year old woman who has had 6 children, married 55 years. Have IBS and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I started have sleep problems in my 40's. I started taking mild antihistamines at first, then I needed to increase the dosage. Then I got to the place where they didn't work so I went to a supplemental medicine store and explored all the options. After many trial and errors, I ended up taking a combination of Melatonin 3mg, 5-HTP 200mg and “Dream On””. I started having trouble finding Dream On, so I started trying other supplemental sleep medicines. Now I switch around so my body doesn't get used to just one and it becomes less effective. The 3 that I am switching around with at the present are Alteril, Dream On, and Power to Sleep PM. I also started taking a good probiotic ,Multi-Flora(Critical Colon) since I heard that a large portion of our dopamine is produced in the gut.. My digestion is much improved and my sleep is good-8or9 hrs. each night. I also took off all caffeine , even chocolate — don't eat after 8PM. I have periods every 2 or 3 months when I still don't sleep, so I signed up with Martin Reed. My word to the many sleepless people out there, there is hope. I didn't want to take prescription sleep meds so have found many herbal supplements that do the job. I look forward to hearing from you, if you have more questions.

          At first, I had trouble sleeping after a especially hard day's work–strenuous yard work or extra heavy house work. This started happening in my late 40's. As other women my age were having trouble sleeping,I figured the biological clock was changing! My mother also had struggles with insomnia. At that time the Irritable Bowell Syndrome was causing a lot of digestive problems. The doctor was not much help with this, so there were quite a few years with trial and error getting that straightened out. As I stated it my first comments, a large portion of our dopamine is manufactured in the gut. I was in bad enough shape that the gut could not perform it's proper function.
