I am planning on trying a new sleep medication (Diphenhydramine/nytol liquid) and I’m worried about the side effects and want to know what kind of things can be done to minimize them.

My first concern is what is the likelihood of experiencing side effects and how does the dosage amount affect this? If I take about half of the dose, will I still be able to get the effects of being able to fall asleep easily but without all the negative side effects?

One of the side effects I am worried about is urine retention. What is the likelihood of developing this side effect? What can I do to prevent/treat this potential side effect? Will taking a lower dose affect this?

The final thing i’m concerned about is if I will wake up at all in the night or if I will completely sleep for the whole night. I ask this because I usually get up and use the toilet in the night, which I prefer to do rather than hold it all night.

There are also a load of other side effects listed here.

If there are any other side effects I haven’t thought of or that I should be aware of, please let me know.

I should add that the potential urine retention is the side effect I am most concerned with

These are all great questions and they should probably be directed to a licensed healthcare provider for qualified answers.

Are you able to recall a time in your life when sleep wasn’t so difficult, didn’t require attention or effort? If so, was diphenhydramine/nytol liquid needed to generate sleep back then? If not, why is it needed now?
