How can I lessen my desire, my need for sleep immediately? How can I relax and start improving my sleep just a little. It is the pressure I put on myself that keeps me awake. It is especially hard to stop these thoughts and feelings when I wake at night. How do I change my deep deep behavior?

        Welcome to the forum, Kwamp!

I think it can be really helpful to simply recognize that when we’ve been awake for long enough, we will always sleep. We don’t need to put effort into sleep or try to control sleep — and it’s often when we try to do these things that we struggle the most.

What time do you usually go to bed at night, what time do you get out of bed to start your day, and roughly how many hours of sleep do you get on a typical night?

Do you usually find it hard to fall asleep, or stay asleep (or both)?

I think I typically average 5 hours a night. I have trouble staying asleep, and am also trying to cycle off my sleeping medication. I wake almost every night and can’t get back to sleep or take hours to get a little more sleep. If I get back to sleep it’s not great I don’t think. I am really excited the nights that I sleep for a solid 6 hours. I am good about going to bed on time, but I do not get out of bed at the same time each morning nor when I can’t sleep. I roll out of bed anywhere between 6-7:15 typically.
