I have suffered with insomnia for a few years but things were generally improving as I gave sleep a lot less thought. I’ve recently started back at work (going into the office) and of course the sleep worry has returned. I now feel as though I’m falling back into old thought processes and worries and can feel a build up of anxiety as bed approaches. I want to have a better relationship with going to bed and realise sleep isn’t the issue, it’s my anxiety that is. And I want to get to the point that I don’t worry if sleep isn’t forthcoming – accepting the situation for what it is

        – That is exactly what everyone does anyway, whether they are aware of it or not

It’s natural and normal to experience worry and to think about sleep. Problems tend to occur when we try to fight or avoid our thoughts and feelings — because, since we cannot directly or permanently control what goes on inside our minds, trying to do so often sets us up for an endless and exhausting struggle.
