      Hi,

I was wondering what others had experienced in relation to exercise and the effect on sleep?

I like to keep pretty fit and I have never let my sleeping issues effect my exercise. However when I went to see the doc’s about my sleep, i was told the more exercise you do the more tired you will be and therefore sleep more. I tried this but it actually had the opposite effect and kept me awake. Also my eye twitching got worse which drives me insane.

      Has anyone experienced this?

        Hello and welcome!

Building a strong sleep drive can certainly assist in your ability to fall and remain asleep during the night. Exercise is great for creating positive moments during the day by engaging in activities you enjoy, building a strong sleep drive and improving your overall health/fitness but it doesn’t directly generate sleep and, exercising too close to your bedtime can actually have a negative impact. Since your poor sleep experience, have you changed your workout routine and timing of it and seen better results?

          Hi,

          Thanks for the reply.

No, but I have changed my diet to a low carb diet which I think could have an impact on the quality of my sleep. It has been better in the last week and I have actually slept pretty well, getting about 6 hrs a night by forcing myself to go to bed later but making sure I get up at the same time each day. So fingers crossed if I can keep my anxiety in check with mindfulness, i maybe on the road to better sleep.
