If you find it hard to fall asleep, then one of the following issues is likely:
1. You aren’t sleepy enough for sleep (fatigue is not the same as sleepiness!)
2. You are trying to fall asleep.
3. You are putting pressure on yourself to fall asleep.
4. You are engaged in a battle with the difficult thoughts and feelings that like to arrive around this time.
It might also be helpful to know that waking during the night is a completely normal part of sleep. If you find it hard to fall back to sleep when you wake, it’s likely to be for one (or more) of the above reasons!
