I have had these issues for four weeks triggered by a couple of sleepless nights on the back of several stressful life events that occurred at once. How to deal? Now on sleeping pills, which is making my anxiety about sleep worse…….

Check out the books below as well as this website. They describe two different methods for treating insomnia.

          Hi Allybobw

Sorry to hear that your struggling.

I have been struggling now for 9 months.

One bit of advice I would give looking back at my experience is…….may sound really simple but you need to not think whatsoever about sleeping so try and keep your mind focused on something else through the day and pre going to bed and if you find yourself not able to sleep or waking up you need to focus on not panicking and get a book to read or whatever can take your mind of the fact your not asleep.
All the advice you will get will always take you back to what I just advised you.
I’m still struggling as I find relaxing hard to do even when awake.

          Good luck.

            Hello Allybobw

Usually, if you have been struggling with sleep for just a few weeks the best thing to do is nothing! By this, I mean don’t change your life in response to the sleep disruption. Following this strategy will help your sleep get back on track by itself.

Many of us (quite rightly) become concerned when our sleep goes off the rails for a few weeks. Unfortunately, we then (quite understandably!) start to adopt compensatory behaviors (such as spending more time in bed, or modifying our lives to accommodate a bad night of sleep, or spending a lot of time thinking about sleep or research sleep) — and these behaviors actually make it harder for our sleep to recover!

Can you tell us a bit more about your current sleep pattern? When do you normally go to bed at night, when do you get out of bed to start your day, and roughly how many hours of sleep would you say you get on a typical night?
