Well I think the title pretty much sums it up.

Has anyone here been so scared if dreaming they have kept themselves awake, a bit like A Nightmare In Elm Street? Well barring you are not going to be killed by your dreams…

I had a stint of dreaming where I was dreaming about one specific time in my childhood that was to say the least rather unpleasant to say the least…it was getting to the extent I was looking for tablets to keep me awake because the dream was upsetting me so much.

I think they have gone away at least for now anyway…has anyone else here experienced anything like this? If so how did you “defeat the demons”?

Not so much now, but when I was a child I'd get terrible nightmares – normally involving the same themes. Usually they involved wolves – but not the normal kind. I'm talking about the cartoon type that wear dungarees and walk on two legs. They were the worst nightmares I ever had – those wolves would always be chasing me. I really had a hard time sleeping because of them.

Thankfully something happened and they eventually went away – perhaps I grew out of them? Maybe my brain realised that a wolf in dungarees isn't something to be afraid of?

As a kid I used to have nightmares of a theme…the Shell Man!

For people too young or not aware, the Shell Man was basically the Shell Petroleum logo with a face on it, and was used to promote the company in the 60's and right through to the early 80s.

The Shell Man, he would chase me, he wanted to kill em (this is how vivid my imagination was at 5-6 years old) and if he bled onto me (I attacked him in a few dreams) then I would become him!

I had these nightmares for years, getting gradually more and more worse that I would try to stay up all night because they scared me so much, I went downstairs one night to mom in tears, horrified that maybe the dreams would come true and I'd die in my sleep because of the Shell Man…she asked me to describe him, and every time I did she drew a silly version of him, making me laugh at him and somehow that took away the power of this bad dream, and I never dreampt of him again.

I just wish the dreams I am currently dealing with were so easy to defeat…but we shall see…now the bad dreams are replaced with odd dreams!

Isn't it strange the things that can scare us in our dreams? When logic is thrown out of the window, all bets are off.

Metal Mickey, Daleks, Cybermen, Robby from Lost in Space – they all plagued my childhood.

Nono from Ulysses 31 was alright though.

It's stupid I was watching horror movies at a very young age (hey, my dad really cared…not) and they never bothered me in the slightest…but a mere cartoon?

My first crush was on Hank from Dungeons and Dragons. When I was younger, it never mattered whether a show had been drawn or not, it was my imagination that made them real and gave them power over me.

Puppets where just as bad. Just watching Zelda's face on the Terrahawks opening sequence gave me the willies!
