I’ve been suffering from Insomnia for about 2 months now, and I don’t know why! First it started by me.waking up.earlier than usual, still tired but couldn’t fall asleep again and now it’s gotten worse that I can’t fall asleep, feel anxious a lot and when I do sleep.it’s such a light sleep for only a bit that I feel.I haven’t slept at all. I’m getting migraines, constant headaches from lack.of sleep and feel very depressed!
I was going to the gym everyday and now I hardly go because I don’t have the energy. .
I’m desperate for sleep please help!
I’ve been to the Dr 3 time’s and all he gives me.are sleeping pills which don’t really help and make me feel worse.

If it were me, I would make an appointment with a good psychiatrist (the kind that can prescribe meds) and pick one of the many therapies to try. You also need to figure out the root of the of your insomnia if you want to beat it quicker. Can you give more details on the day it started? Before you noticed the sleeplessness start were you thinking or doing something out of the ordinary?

Nikki – There’s help for you. Insomnia is an anxiety-related disorder and most sleep doctors don’t understand it or know how to treat it. Other doctors just give you pills which don’t help and many times just make things worse over time. There are two different types of therapy for this. One is CBT-I (cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia) which Martin, the host of this website explains. The other is called ACT. To understand ACT, read The Sleep Book by Dr. Guy Meadows and/or go to his website. Some of us on the thread here, ACT for Insomnia, are using this method. My insomnia started in Oct 2018. I first tried CBT-I and made a lot of improvement. Then I changed to ACT and am now completely cured.

Hello Nikki and welcome to the forum. I’m sorry to hear about your difficulties with sleep.

First, let me reassure you that you CAN sleep! We all sleep and we never lose the ability to sleep. Anxiety can definitely make sleep more difficult, but even when anxiety is present, if we are awake for long enough we will sleep.

Medication is not the answer and it’s not a long-term solution. I really encourage you to look into cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I).

When do you currently go to bed at night, when do you get out of bed to start your day, and roughly how many hours of sleep would you say you get on a typical night?
