      Hello everyone,

      I’m new to insomnia and it’s truly pulled the rug out from under me. I’ve dealt with anxiety before in many different guises but this currently feels like a different (super scary) beast! I have not had proper sleep in 4 out of 5 nights now. It’s being fuelled purely by the anxiety about not getting to sleep.
      I don’t think my brain has any confidence in my ability to deal with not sleeping! I guess this is true for most people to some degree. My thoughts go out to everyone struggling with this problem… It really can feel devastating! Feel like I’m stuck in a trap there’s no way out of. Thank goodness for insomnia coach!! Martin’s YouTube videos and emails have really helped thus far!

          Hi Martin!

          Difficult question as I honestly don’t think there’s an email or video that hasn’t made me feel so much more hopeful. In the beginning even just knowing that I would eventually sleep no matter what was a life saver. Now I’m loving the idea of focusing on the things I can control (behaviours) because there’s no way to control sleep! I’ve started a sleep restriction window and it’s super tough (I’m falling asleep about 4 hours before bedtime – having to stand up if I want to watch tv!!) but I’m enjoying it in a way because it gives back a feeling of control. I also think that as well as increasing sleep drive the sleep restriction must also send a message to the brain saying it’s ok not to sleep!
