I appreciate the advice to continue to live our lives even if we are struggling with poor sleep. I have found it very helpful!

Any advice on staying awake during the day when struggling from lack of sleep and NOT take a nap ?

I know the advice is NOT to nap during the day , in order to create better sleep at night.

But it can be hard at times around 3 pm to stay awake and not take a 20-30 min nap.

Sometimes it feels like NOT taking a nap can feed sleep anxiety when struggling during the day.

How ‘worried’ should we be about the ‘inflammation’ caused by insomnia?

      Thank you

Also , does anyone get nauseous in the mornings when they don’t sleep well?

There is no evidence that insomnia causes any health problem whatsoever. If you want to take a nap for 20-30 minutes, why not take a nap?

A nap taken later in the day might slightly reduce your sleep drive for nighttime sleep, but perhaps that’s a tradeoff you are willing to make?

If it’s not, perhaps some kind of movement and physical activity (especially actions that are aligned with your values and interests) might help you get through that afternoon slump while also keeping you moving toward the life you want to live?

If you are concerned about morning nausea, I would suggest talking to your doctor. We can experience a lot of difficult and uncomfortable feelings after a night of struggle.

I hope there’s something useful here. You are not alone and I wish you all the best.

            Martin,
Thank you for taking the time to reply .
I have found shorter naps 15-30 min on some days actually help me take the edge off and put my mind in a better place to sleep later that night.
When my fatigue is at its worst and my anxiety is high a short nap helps .
