Over the last four months(for the first time in my life) I’ve had a severe problem with throat burn Gastro reflex. As a result of severe pain in the evenings between 7 PM and 2am I had not been able to get to sleep but needed to be up at 6:30am for work so I was relying on sleeping pills to get through the night. Without the sleeping pills I would not have been able to sleep at all over the past three months and therefore wouldn’t have been able to work and keep my job. The pain was so intense it felt like someone was trying to strangle me when I was lying in bed, usually until around 1 AM. If I took a sleeping pill at day 10:00pm it would relieve the pain and put me to sleep within a few hours. No other medications the doctor had given me would relieve that pain other than the sleeping pills. Please let me know if you have any advice on how to get off the pills as I’m having difficulty trying to do that.

Sorry to hear about the pain you are in, Taylor. When it comes to medication, that is a discussion best had with your prescribing physician.

Since medication doesn’t typically address the root cause of insomnia, you may find that without doing anything to address the root cause of your insomnia, sleep disruption returns when you stop taking medication.

You might want to ask your doctor if they think you would be a good candidate for cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I).

        I hope this helps.
