Thank you, drugs are easy to get around this tiny town, I lost one friend to them already, this is another, and my best friend of 14 years now pushed me and everyone else out of his life for drugs, sad times.
Yay no kids fighting and Lasagna!
Military man?

That's too bad. I've seen many a great people fall to drugs. It's a depressing thing to watch.
Yes, military man. We were together for four years before he joined. (I feel so old sometimes, cause it's been eight since he joined. lol) This is his fourth tour, and it's about all I can take, thank you very much. He's out in 19 months.
February 1, 2010 at 5:20 pm #9407Great idea, Yam!
Good Times – Knowing that I picked the right people to get this community off the ground.
Good Times – Looking forward to a weekend away at Lake Placid with my wife for Valentines Day.
Bad Times – It being absolutely freezing in my apartment right now.
I am pretty lucky.

Oh, I was once in the military, I excelled at close quarters combat and sniping, I had to leave though my leg was getting worse and worse.

Do you find drugs to be an issue in the armed forces community? It must be tough coping with the stress of loved ones being posted to danger zones.

Yes, I've seen it quite a lot in the last 8 years. There've been several wives who lost everything to their addictions, including (multiple) kids, their jobs, homes, everything. The military takes drugs very seriously.
Conversely, I've watched soldiers throw it all away to get that desperately needed fix. One guy was huffing the computer cleaner out in Iraq two years ago before missions, and he had the audacity to come and see me when he was on leave, and high. I ripped him a new one; how dare he endanger my husband and everyone else out there to get a high that lasts what? An hour? Another guy got hooked on cocaine, and another on heroin.
It's a sad thing to see. Stress of deployments is no reason for it, though; people have no coping skills and that's why they turn to drugs to relieve themselves of reality for a little while.
For my part, my OCD kicks in a little extra. Let's just say there are certain things you don't mess up around me. lol
February 1, 2010 at 8:13 pm #9413That's certainly enlightening. You know, we always hear about the stresses and pitfalls of life in the armed forces – but very rarely from the perspective of friends and family. Normally we hear about the issues facing the soldiers themselves – not their loved ones.
That's a shame.

Isn't there a movie about that place with a killer beastie? 😛
February 1, 2010 at 9:32 pm #9415I believe so. Hopefully I can snap a picture and become an overnight millionaire!

February 1, 2010 at 9:37 pm #9416Good times: being part of a growing community
Good times: beating my best time to walk 2 miles
Good times: having lots of work to do
Bad times: thinking I have to walk 26 miles in May, not just 2!
Bad times: having lots of work to do 😉
I don't like doing bad times things – I'm trying so hard to look at the positives more than the negatives! Having said that, apart from being skint and my washing machine not working there isn't too much to complain about right now 😀
