I was planning on browsing the site, but it looks like to view the forum, I have to submit a post:) I have had trouble sleeping since I was very young. I took a sleeping medication for nearly 6 years and became totally dependent on it. Since I’ve been off of it, a good night’s sleep is very rare. I’m exploring to find other ways to help with sleep without medication:)

Welcome to the forum, Leanne. Congratulations on getting off the sleeping medication. How long ago did you quit the sleeping pills? What do you think is the main reason why you are struggling with sleep?

I quit in January which was the same time I started an SSRI. The doctor told me handling anxiety should help with the sleep, and that was true for a couple months, but unfortunately sleeping troubles came back. Regarding why I think I can’t sleep, I’m not sure. I think waking up in the middle of the night might have to do with my vivid dreams. and falling asleep might be because of anxiety. I can’t seem to slow my brain down at bedtime. I also haven’t established that correlation that bed means sleep. I hang out in my bed a lot since I have 5 roommates. It’s the only place that is mine.

Why do you think your sleep troubles came back, Leanne? A lot of the issues you mention (a racing mind at bedtime, not being able to associate the bed with sleep, spending too much time in bed) respond well to interventions that use cognitive and behavioral techniques. Have you looked into CBT-I?
