I finished the course a few months ago and wanted to reach out to those who may be struggling with insomnia. I’ve struggled with insomnia for years, even as a child, and as an adult took Trazodone for many years as a sleep aid. I found Martin’s channel on YouTube and found those videos initially helpful. I wanted more relief, so I enrolled in this course. The factual information about sleep, how our sleep needs change throughout life, and struggle and strategies was very helpful for me. A big benefit of this course helped me see that I need to “get out of my own way” regarding sleep and that the real problem is the struggle and my desire for control around sleep. This course has also helped me stop struggling in other areas of my life too (with things I can’t control). Another big benefit of this course is that I typically wake at night and now I am able to quickly fall back asleep. This is because I have learned tools in this course to stop “rumination” in its tracks. Does that mean I get a great night of sleep every night? Nope, sure doesn’t. What’s changed is I’m no longer stressing about a poor night’s sleep because I know that it’s all perfectly normal and my body will give me that sleep I need. Sleep tight 🙂

I’m right with you. What I try to do at night is tell my self the life on want to live. I start out by saying my own version of the AWAKE exercise which is I invite my thoights and feelings in. I tell them they arr welcome. I than thank my brain for looking out after me. I try to incorporate my values. If I’m not sleepy, I read. When I’m ready I tell myself I’m going to rest. I actually started the course last October, I didn’t take it serious, actually started over. No doubt my sleep is better, but this is a continuous “work in progress” What have to keep reminding myself is I am going to have those rough nights, but I also will have good nights.
