On my first night following this new method, I left the bedroom and read a little until I was sleepy. I did this 3 times. Finally when back in bed for the 3rd time, I fell asleep.

Last night I did the same. On the third try, I was sleepy but I thought I might read just a few more pages to get even sleepier, but the reverse happened.
I read until 3:30 am because I lost my sleepiness and finally around 3:45 am I decided to go back to bed even though I wasn’t really sleepy. To my surprise I did fall
      asleep.

When I leave the room I go to the guest bedroom to read. Maybe my mistake is that I lie down to read. I wonder if I should be sitting up instead.

And perhaps my mistake last night was trying to read just a little more to be a bit more sleepy.

        Hi @Xavier!

Welcome to the forum! By saying, “this new method”, are you referring to CBT-I techniques, specifically the stimulus control method, or something else? If you don’t fall asleep right away, what is going through your mind? Are you relaxed or feeling anxious when you’re lying in bed? Do you feel like you’re monitoring for sleepiness to closely when you get out of bed to read instead of being fully engaged in the activity?
