      I'm not very good at filling these things out, I always feel silly. I disclaim.

      I'm here because I've been an insomniac for most of my life. Diagnosed with acute chronic insomnia in 2007, I've been using Imovane to fall asleep for years. There've been some recent studies on the effects of of long term use of prescription sleep aides that have me concerned (also defensively snarky… one of the studies I read implied that the effects of long term prescription drug use to manage insomnia was worse than the insomnia itself. Which, well, have they tried not sleeping for a week? I'll take the pills over the headaches and dysphoria, thanks).

      I'm hoping to lurk here and find new suggestions and ideas for managing my insomnia, and connect with people who aren't going to ask me if I've tried warm milk.

      It's good to be here. I'm looking forward to checking this place out.

        Welcome to Insomnia Land, Dani. Don't worry – nobody here will recommend warm milk as an insomnia cure!!

        I think you're right to be concerned about the latest studies regarding the health consequences/implications of sleeping pills – but, as you say, they are still a tool many of us need in order to tolerate our sleeplessness.

        Have you tried any non-pharmaceutical treatments for your sleeplessness?

        I hope as you lurk around the forums you'll also take the time to contribute if you have an experience to add, or a question that needs answering. Members find that the more they contribute to the community, the more they get from the community.

          hi, i feel your pain, i am under some medication but im scared of long term side effects. even with medication i struggle to sleep

                I'm the opposite really, I have to sell my soul to get any POMs Ive been back and forth to the docs for 3 years and he has only given me meds a handful of times!! 🙁 and only a couple of weeks worth, by which time they've stopped working anyway.

                I do agree that the long term effects of medication is far less life threatening than not sleeping for weeks at a time!!

                They wouldn't say to a cancer patient ” oh sorry you can't have morphine because its addictive and becomes less affective the longer you take it” would they????
