My name is Jennifer. I am fairly new to insomnia. I have had bouts with insomnia here and there in the past, but this has been going on now for a month. I suspect it could be hormonal. I recently turned 50. I have been on birth control pills for the past 11 years. After conducting research, I really don't know if it's the birth control pills, or if it could be due to menopause. Either way, it is driving me crazy. I am supposed to go off the birth control pills after next week because of my age. I guess I will see if that helps. At this point, however, I am experiencing sever sleep anxiety, and I fear it is going to take some behavior and cognitive changes to really make a difference. If anyone has a similar experience or has any thoughts, I'd love to hear them!

      Thanks!

        Welcome to the forum, Jennifer.

Sleep issues have been linked to the hormonal changes associated with menopause and sleep anxiety is very common among those with insomnia, so you definitely aren’t alone there. Two quick tips for you — make sure you aren’t spending too much time in bed compared to how much time you actually spend sleeping, and if you can’t sleep after around 15-30 minutes, get out of bed for about 15-30 minutes (or until you feel sleepy) then get back into bed and try again.
