Hello everyone. My name is Robin and I'm new to the group. I've had an occasional good night's sleep, but for the most part I've had insomnia for 18 years. As I suspect many of you have, I've tried all different kinds of things with hopes of fixing this problem, to no avail. I've been a home school mom for what feels like forever (really only 17 years). My hobbies are friends, reading, and sewing. I am looking forward to being part of this group, to hopefully be an encouragement and to be encouraged. 🙂

November 1, 2011 at 2:45 am #13154Thanks for the welcome, xdunlapx and Martin. In answer to your questions, Martin, my insomnia started after the birth of my second child. It was just one of many problems I experienced at that time. I've been to only one specialist, a neurologist, who said I wasn't a candidate for a sleep study. I saw him a couple of months ago. The only help he offered me was behavior modification. Because of all of my health problems, I've done a lot of research into alternative medicine. I've cured myself of many of the problems that started at that time, but I still have a few, insomnia being one.
I found the books in the store section intriguing. I was able to request many of them from my library. I haven't tried that route yet, so I'm looking forward to seeing if they offer me any help. I'd love to hear of any success others have had through reading one of these books.
November 1, 2011 at 9:02 pm #13155Robin, you might want to look into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for insomnia as a potential treatment option. In any case, I'm sure you'll find lots of support and advice here in the forums.
Don't be a stranger!

November 2, 2011 at 4:20 pm #13156Hmmmm, an interesting suggestion, Martin. I didn't know what Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is, so I did a quick google search. You might have something there. I shall look into it further. Thanks!
November 2, 2011 at 8:04 pm #13157I've mentioned it a few times on the blog, too:

November 3, 2011 at 8:29 am #13158Hi, Robin! The people here seem to be really lovely, and I think you'll find friends. I'm sort of lurky (my shy label DOES fit), but I'm trying to at least welcome people, as so many welcomed me. I'm playing catch-up at this point! I had no idea there were so many people who had really long-term insomnia, as I do. I hope you find help here, too.

November 3, 2011 at 10:55 am #13159Hi Amy 🙂
Thanks for the welcome. I read your info. I can only imagine how hard life must be with both you and your husband having the problems you do. I've suffered from depression, too, but thankfully not anymore. I hope you're able to find some help here.
Robin
