I want to first thank Martin for inviting me and am grateful that we have all found a place to offer and accept advice and understanding. 🙂
I am a New Yorker but have my permanent home on an acreage outside of Houston, Texas. I am married to a Canadian and have a ten year old daughter and seven year old son.
We are currently living outside of Edmonton, Alberta while my husband is completing a temporary assignment. If we survive this brutal winter, we should be back home by July.
I tend to fall asleep quickly, wake up two hours later and then can't get back to sleep. I end up doing housework, playing with the dog or anything but sleeping for hours on end in the middle of the night. It's annoying and frustrating. By that time of night, even if I wanted to, I couldn't take any sort of sleep aid because I would never be able to get up early and get everyone up and out for the day.
I am anxious to share ideas and tricks and tips that might help us all have sweeter dreams. 😉

Haha, yeah, they know me as infidelqueen on Twitter, but Lindsay elsewhere. Good to see you (sort of) again!

Two Texans in one place? I better start handing out the cowboy (and cowgirl!) hats, eh?

February 1, 2010 at 8:57 pm #9318Hi Bobbie, good to meet you. I know what you mean about taking sleep medications – I can't even take them in the evening because they knock me out for the next day (maybe I'm on the wrong ones though – that's a whole new topic!!)

I think you just found a new topic for the insomnia thread! I tried tylenol pm once and it was a total disaster. I could barely function for almost a full day. 😮

Agreed. I'd love to see a discussion like this in the insomnia section 🙂

February 2, 2010 at 5:58 am #9321Wow. Canada and Texas. Lots of extremes. Cool. Looking forward to your posts.
February 2, 2010 at 10:31 pm #9322Nice to meet you! I have a friend in Edmonton — how funny! Good luck with that Canadian winter — the only way I survived Minnesota was lots and lots of flannel! Won't be long now until the snow starts to melt, though. Do you find the weather/amount of sunlight effects your sleep habits? I have seasonal affective disorder and I've always noticed a difference, and then it's different again in the UK where the winter nights are even longer and it rains pretty constantly.
February 2, 2010 at 11:00 pm #9323I know someone that lives in Edmonton, too!

That's an interesting issue – it would be great if someone could start a discussion topic on that subject in the insomnia forum.

February 10, 2010 at 4:16 pm #9324While I've been watching much of the U.S. getting slammed by snowstorms, I thought I would post a few photos of the kids I took this past weekend.
This is called us trying to embrace an Alberta winter. 😛
This was taken on the hill behind our house –
This is my seven year old taking skiing lessons –
And this was taken last Sunday at Elk Island National Park when my daughter, son and I went snowshoeing (the red things are snowshoes) –
