      Hello all

I'm a new joiner based in London, UK.

I have had intermittent sleeplessness since I was a child – the classic “I can't sleep because I'm worried about not getting to sleep” vicious circle.

My interests are all forms of craft, be it knitting, woodwork, silk-screen printing, anything really. I suppose I have a need to be creative which doesn't help with the sleeping 🙂

I love to read novels – one of the few plus sides of insomnia for me 🙂 . I also love radio and regularly guest on a local arts radio station here. I'm even thinking of producing a show especially for insomniacs so I'll let you know if that happens!

I've suffered from depression and anxiety in the past and I get frequent migraines.

The only medication I've taken for insomnia is the occasional valium, which works 95% of the time but feels like a waste of good tranquilisers! I also take amytriptaline to help prevent migraines, which used to make me a zombie in the day before i got the dose right.

Some of my friends are insomniacs and they are always the most interesting, so i look forward to being part of the community.

Welcome, Sazmoc!! This is a wonderful website. I'm pretty new myself but already feel better just KNOWING there are others out there (worldwide!) who are experiencing this same, frustrating thing called insomnia — plus the anxiety and depression and panic that come with it.

I hope you can get your radio show on the air; keep us posted on your progress with that!

Hi there – I sought medical advice when i was a child i think? But just got the standard “drink warm milk” line. But advice i sought for anxiety has definitely helped – i find mindfulness works well for me, but takes practise.

              Hello sazmoc,

              Welcome to the community.

Like yourself I am a recent joiner from London. If you get a chance, please take a look at my intro post as there seems to be some overlap in our experience.

In particular I would be extremely interested to hear how you practice mindfulness / what form it takes / where you picked it up, as I have had some success with meditation myself and would like to learn more.

I am very musically inclined so would also love to hear how your idea for the radio show goes.

              All the best
