      Hello!
I have slept well my entire life (falling asleep within minutes of being in bed), even during stressful times. I started a new job and all of the sudden.. I couldn’t sleep one night and it got in my head and spiraled out of control. I sleep great on the weekend and during weeknights I’m up until 3:30. I cry and panic and feel so hopeless. My heart races like crazy and it won’t stop. I am seeing a doctor for CBT-I working on not “thinking” of sleep, getting up and doing something enjoyable when I can’t sleep but I still get SO frustrated that I have to get up and that Im wasting time not trying to sleep. I get it in my head early in the day that tonight is the night I won’t sleep again.. and so it happens. Does this take time/practice? Is racing heart normal? I’m quite a perfectionist and want this to be a one time fix. Obviously I know that’s not the case. Thanks!!

        Hi KayJ
I don’t have any answers for you but just wanted to say the exact same thing has happened to me over the last 3 months. Was a month into a new job and had one really bad night and that was it. Got myself into a rubbish cycle of bad sleeping. I’ve got better at not panicking and accepting that I’m not sleeping well and that I will still function the next day. Things are a bit better but I’m still not falling asleep quickly like I used to do before all this. It is often 1 or 2am by the time I drift off. It’s very frustrating when you have been a good sleeper, I do sympathise with you.

It’s hard to “not think” about something.

Try this — don’t think of a pink elephant.

Did you already think of a pink elephant?
