Hey everyone. I am new to all this so please excuse me if i am not doing this correctly. I thought I had made a post but I cant find it so not sure what I did wrong. I am a single lady from Manchester in England and have battled with insomnia for many years. I wake up every morning at 5am and last night did not get to sleep until 1am. I have tried everything and nothing works; even hypnotherapy! If anyone can give me some advice I would be grateful. I feel so alone some times and it is so good to think that I now belong to a community where there are people like me.

      Thank you.

Thanks Martin. The first post I made had much more information but I am not sure why it did not work. Anyway, about 12 years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and ever since then I have found it so hard to sleep. Last night for example I went to bed at 11.30, and woke up at 1am, and then just could not get back to sleep; hence why tonight I will have to take a sleeping pill. I am now finding it very difficult to function day to day. I have a really stressful job and my lack of sleep is now having a detrimental effect. I just feel so helpless and alone with this and wonder if you can give me any tips. I have tried everything over the years; taking hot baths at night, lavender oil, relaxtion tapes, etc. etc. but nothing works. I have even had hypnotherapy and, whilst it did definitely relax me, did not help my sleep pattern at all. I have tried hot milk, writing down all the things I need to do etc., before bedtime, but nothing works. Thanks.

Once you have tried all the usual strategies, it gets more frustrating – I don't know anything about you, but things to consider:

Women in particular can have insomnia from hormonal changes – can start around the age of 40.

I've heard of dietary causes of insomnia – if you have a gluten sensitivity, it may impact your sleep patterns, so you might want to find a Dr to check on that.

Also, I've heard of insomnia being caused by VItamin D deficiency (really common if you don't spend lots of time outside in the sun) – you might want to have that checked out as well.
