      Another new member here.

Going through a terrible bout of insomnia at the moment, and desperately seeking some input about what others have tried/found successful or unsuccessful etc.

I went through a similar bout around 16 years ago, coupled with depression which ended in a complete breakdown & hospitalisation, so I'm determined not to go down that path again.

It will be nice to have someone to share the wee small hours with 🙄 (although I'm trying to force myself to stay in bed & resist the temptation to get up & do something like read or go online, but that itself can turn into a battle that lasts hours & is quite unpleasant, which I'm sure most of you are familiar with.)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

My psychiatrist says that it's good to get out of bed if you've been in bed for a half hour or longer and go read or get online for a while. Then try to sleep again. He called it good “sleep hygiene”. I'd do some research on sleep hygiene and see if those ideas will help you. It tends to help me if I'm frustrated laying in bed to listen to classical music or some soft music and to read. I hope you can get over this hump. Good luck to you! 🙂

I can only add my sad feeling for your present situation. Currently I have a bad cold, cough which has changed into a bacterial infection – I'm now taking anti-biotics.

My sleep meds worked for years but lately they have been way less effective than they were for years. When (and if) this cold, cough is over I'm going back to my family doctor and ask her if she can recommend something else. 🙂
