I am following CBT-I very perfectly. But am discouraged!

Due to sleep restriction and increased sleep drive I fall asleep right away. But I awaken at 2 or 3am and then because of stimulus control go back and forth between the couch and bed. I am getting 3-4 hrs avg – night for 5 nights.

People with night time awakenings and an anxiety response to them (feels like my sleep drive is all used up)
How long until you noticed some sleep consolidation, sleeping longer.

      Thanks!

Hi Christine, I started to have some improvements in the fourth week, but we are not all the same, so for some it may take several days or weeks. The improvements are slow and never linear, sometimes there may be some deterioration so don’t be discouraged for some nights of bad sleep, you’ll get back on track if you continue with the techniques. Don’t give up, you’ll be out of it soon!

As pointed out by Gabriele, we are all unique — so progress is different for everyone!

It can be helpful to remember that it took time for your insomnia to develop, so it will take time (albeit usually less time!) to address it!

It can also be helpful to focus attention on the process (doing what you are doing) rather than monitoring for results. The results will come by themselves — and they have already started to appear with those faster sleep onset times!

If you are ready to stop struggling with insomnia you can enroll in the online insomnia coaching course right now! If you would prefer ongoing phone or video coaching calls as part of a powerful three month program that will help you reclaim your life from insomnia, consider applying for the Insomnia Mastery program.
