How to change my thoughts on insomnia

      For about 2 years I have struggled with insomnia and it is on my thoughts all the time. I did see a CBTI psychologist but there is not one in my hometown so only saw him when I wintered in a different state. I have tried unisom with some success but since I am such a worry wort was concerned about the long-time effects of it. I hate to even go in the bedroom and think about the following night and wonder if I’ll get any sleep at all. I do take a small dosage of melatonin.

          Yes he did but I am one who doesn’t have patience. Your emails have helped so much. My sleep specialist I feel gave up on me even to the point of telling me what sleeping pills I should as my primary provider prescribe for me. I did ask and she refused to prescribe them. I am having some luck with a small dosage of melatonin. Isn’t that normal for the elderly to have melatonin lessen as one ages.

            I guess I have realize nights without sleep isn’t as big of deal as I have made the out to be.

              Melatonin doesn’t generate sleep (it’s more of a signal for sleep) and there’s very little evidence to support its effectiveness for insomnia. So, the good news is that the improvements you’ve been enjoying are nothing to do with luck — they’re almost certainly because of your natural ability to sleep rather than the melatonin supplements!
