I have almost broken free from sleeping pills. I have used these for over 15 years. With my doctor’s help i have been weaning off for 2 months and 2 weeks ago I was able to go an entire week no pills. I had some struggle falling asleep, but with principles learned through Martin’s podcasts, I was able to be relatively successful. Then I went to visit family over the holidays and my success plummeted. I have basically had 1 night of sleep in 6 days (with the use of a pill). At this point I am on a constant adrenaline rush and i don’t know how many more nights i can go without sleep. I’m tempted to take a pill to break the cycle of hyper-arousal but i just don’t want to go back on them.

After 15 years of sleeping pills, you went an entire week of no sleeping pills whatsoever! What did you learn from that experience?

More recently, sleep hasn’t been happening as you want it to. You notice adrenalin rushing through you when you want sleep to happen. You know the pills are available as an option but you don’t want to take them.

Why is getting away from sleeping pills important to you? When you consider how to respond when sleep doesn’t show up, what options do you have other than medication?
