Hello, I’m just exploring ideas to get better sleep, as I have insomnia related to hyperarousal.
I can become startled easily from sudden noises during night – whether it be a barking dog, passing vehicles, doors closing from other house members.
Foam earplugs don’t block out the noise either.

      My questions are:
Has white noise helped you to sleep?
Does white noise lose its effectiveness once you become accustomed to it?
Would you wear earphones to sleep to listen to white noise or music to block out the noise?

      Thanks.

A white noise machine might be helpful if external environmental sounds are disrupting your sleep. I am not sure how effective a white noise machine will be when it comes to reducing hyperarousal, though.
