after again been awake for more than 2 days i have decided health comes first
does anybody else here quit off lost their job to insomnia
the only good news is next week i finally can go for me first time to the sleep clinic

September 14, 2018 at 5:44 pm #23388I’ve gotten close to where I feared I would have to. I would probably try for a telecommute position if it got to that. At least the anxiety of having to show up looking half alive would br removed….not to mention the driving on 2 hrs of sleep!
September 17, 2018 at 12:59 pm #23402Yes. I have had to give up my job and now there is more stress about money. I’m feeling awful during the day. Can’t function. Just want sleep. ?
September 18, 2018 at 12:42 am #23410Yup. I can’t have a job where people can count on me to show up. Just dragging my exhausted self out of bed each morning is awful.
I have an online job, but it’s limited. I have to live on less than $1k a month.

September 19, 2018 at 12:12 am #23463Shift work is not recommended since it has a negative effect on sleep — particularly if your shifts change regularly. In addition, the best treatment option for insomnia (CBT-I) includes techniques that you will not be able to follow if you work shifts.
It’s rarely beneficial to quit work, cancel plans with friends, or make any major adjustments to your life in a bid to improve sleep. In fact, such actions can often make sleep issues worse.
Can you remember any times when you were able to function reasonably well during the day despite having slept poorly the previous night? If so, you can see that your level of functioning and daytime performance is not totally dependent on the quality of your sleep. The more you worry about these daytime impairments, the greater the chance they will affect your sleep the next night.
Think of it this way — were there ever any times when you forced yourself to go out and see friends or go to work after a bad night of sleep? Did you manage to get through the day? Perhaps you even had fun or noticed a few positive moments? Yes, it was likely very difficult — but you got through it and may have enjoyed glimpses of positivity in your day.
Compare this to when you sit at home instead. It’s unlikely you have any moments of fun or positivity then, simply because you are not giving yourself the opportunity to have any moments of fun or positivity.
When we rearrange our lives to accommodate our sleep, insomnia can only ever have a bad outcome. In addition, there is no way of knowing what may have happened if you had gone to work or stuck to your intended plans. You might have had a bad day, but you might have had a good day. However, by trying to accommodate your sleep issues (by calling in sick, quitting work, canceling plans, etc), the only thing you learn is that insomnia leads to negative outcomes.
In addition, these actions increase the likelihood if insomnia persisting long-term. That’s because when you’re at home trying to compensate for lost sleep (or worrying about your sleep), you are less likely to be physically active, you are more inclined to nap, more likely to think about sleep, and more likely to go to bed earlier and spend more time awake in bed. All these behaviors are almost certain to make sleep issues worse — yet they were all done with the intention of trying to feel better or trying to improve sleep.

September 20, 2018 at 10:50 pm #23507I have a job where one night a week is a late night. I can’t avoid this. Those are nights I have to either have no sleep, or use a sleeping pill.
September 24, 2018 at 8:50 pm #23535Hey Jilly, are you in a situation where you can’t afford to change jobs or do you think you can cope with that one late night? I ask because I did late nights for more money but I had to quit as this made my insomnia worse and now it hasn’t recovered to where it was. So if that one night makes it worse it maybe worth considering if a change would be good. Prevention is always better.
September 24, 2018 at 9:54 pm #23536Thank you for your thoughts. This is my family business that I co-founded and love. I would rather suffer in the sleep department, than suffer the pain of not being a part of it anymore.
Since it’s online work from home, and all the other nights are fine, I call it a win. 🙂

3rd day now. I am not bragging, and if I read what I am CURRENTLY
going threw, I would not believe that the last sleep I had was now
7 days ago. Martin questioned why I am counting? I am not.
In 2o minutes will start another.
Davy- I stopped working 12 years ago, for Epilepsy witch the
side effects of induces my insomnia. I just spent 3 hours on
a secluded beach, and nothing. Last time I got to 111 hours
before I either had a seizure or fell asleep. That was back on
last Monday the17th. Every night I am sure it has to be tonight.
Hang in there. I came to this site because I am scared.
All I have found is that I am not alone. And there
are a lot of people who sound like they much more
on there plate then I do.
September 25, 2018 at 8:13 pm #23560I understand being scared. I wish we could all have a nice quiet place we could all set up perfectly for sleep in, and be around during the day to commiserate. What a great business it could be, with perfect sleep hygiene and lots of support.
September 25, 2018 at 8:32 pm #23561I’m here as well because it got so bad. Mine is caused by anxiety. I’ve also developed health anxiety, except it’s not just about my physical health but also my mental health. I have fears my brain is diseased and deteriorating and causing dementia, dizziness and confusion. Except the symptoms occur too randomly and too far away from each other that it has to be the anxiety making believe the symptoms are real.
It seems that most people on the forum seem to be going through worse, but I can’t seem to appreciate how much worse it could be for me. Its definitely motivating knowing I’m not alone. I just wish I had something more than online experiences to remember everyone by for when I can’t sleep or having anxiety attacks.
