I only sleep 5 to 6 hours per night on average, no matter what I do.  I use to sleep 7 hours per night for most of my life, when I was younger.  I am 63 years old.  Any suggestions?  So far, nothing has helped.  I have tried walking 10k steps per day or more, which is verified by my Fitbit, I have tried eating more foods high in magnesium and taking a magnesium sometimes, I got checked by 2 doctors and I found out I have low thyroid and I take natural thyroid tablets (I do not have any other medical conditions), and nothing has worked.  Please offer suggestions.

The best suggestion is to not worry. As we age sleep tends to be shorter and lighter. Much like our shoe sizes and our height, we can’t really change how much we can sleep and is mostly predetermined. What is important is that the sleep quality is generally good as in you fall asleep within a reasonable time, stay asleep mostly and not tired during the day.

How do you feel during the day, Jenny64? This is a better indicator of how well you are sleeping than sleep duration.
