      Hi all.

Newbie here. I’m at the end of my rope with my sleeping problems. And hoping someone here might have some advice.

For many years I’ve woken up repeatedly through the night. I don’t really have trouble falling asleep but staying asleep.

I tend to fall asleep and then about 1 hour or 2 hours later I wake up. I might go for a wee, or might not. I then come back to bed and then fall asleep quickly. Then again 2 hours later I wake up and the same pattern happens, might get up for a wee then back to sleep again immediately. Repeat 3,4,5 times a night. I snore, been tested for sleep apnea (don’t have it) and am very restless during the night, noises and movement.

It means I never have really really deep sleep and am constantly tired. It’s killing my relationship too. My partner cannot cope with constantly being woken up.

I don’t know what to do, or what’s wrong.

I don’t think it is that unusual, especially as one gets older. I wake between 3 and 5 times

How long do these awakenings typically last, Martin?

Not very long. 5-10mins. I don’t have trouble falling asleep again, just staying asleep for a decent amount of time. I’m only 37 and have had this issue since my very early 30s.

My partner says my snoring is v loud. I am restless, move around a lot, make noises and have bruxism. All signs of someone not in a deep sleep stage.

I tend to wake up and pop to the bathroom and go immediately back to bed. I’ve been tested for diabetes (don’t have it), my BP is relatively normal. I have tried cutting out liquids in early eve – no effect. I’ve tried sleeping pills – no effect. I just can’t seem to get more than 90 mins at a time sleeping.

Have you been tested for sleep apnea? Frequent nighttime awakenings, very loud snoring, and finding it relatively easy to fall back to sleep after waking are symptoms more typically associated with sleep apnea than insomnia.
