Ok, this going to sound a bit odd, or at least it does to me, but I really want to sleep…but I don't.

Since I've been home for hospital end of January, I've been having problems sleeping. To begin with it was down to pain, but that has pretty much gone (barring the headaches) but now my brain just refuses to shut down much to my frustration…but now another element has been added to the mix.

Each time I go to sleep I have the same nightmare, taking me back to my childhood.

So now I lay in bed, I'm tired…and I want/need to sleep, but I don't want to sleep because I'll go back to the nightmares.

Anyone else suffered similar? How did/do you deal with it?

At first, I was going to ask whether you've tried meditation or other relaxation techniques – then I got to the part about your nightmares. If they're making you want to avoid sleep, I don't know if these techniques will help.

I will be interested if other members here find that nightmares are the cause of (or at least contribute to) their insomnia, and if they have any tips for other members.

I do actually do meditation on a regular basis, but it seems not to relax me currently to my frustration.

I think I may need to seek medical help if this carries on much longer, but we shall see.
