I very often wake up after a couple of hours sleep and can’t get back to sleep or worse still my IBS kicks in and its impossible to sleep. I get the odd night where I manage 4 or 5 hours sleep and I have to consider these as good nights. I’ve been like this for 40 odd years.

Unfortunately, I cannot offer any advice on the IBS, but if you wake and find it hard to fall back to sleep when IBS isn’t an issue, you might find it helpful to explore whether you are allotting an appropriate amount of time for sleep (many of us spend too much time in bed in an attempt to generate more sleep but the end result is usually just more time awake).

        I hope this helps!

It is difficult not to stay in bed trying desperately to catch up on slept. But Martin in right you are better to try and limit time in bed to actual sleep. Im not sure about IBS but I found a change in my diet really helped to reduce my nighttime stomach cramps. I stopped gorging on crips chocolate and anything high in carbs before bed.
