Hi. What caused my sleep issues has to do with mental illness and past trauma. I have PTSD and my insomnia started after a stressful event. I use to take sleeping medications years ago and when I went off them I was doing okay with sleep and no issues however that changed in a year and now my insomnia is horrible. I haven’t found much what helps my insomnia but I know when I try not thinking/stressing about it I have more energy and don’t feel fatigued.

Thanks for sharing and welcome to the forum.

We can’t directly control sleep, unfortunately — but we can control our behaviors. And, fortunately, there are plenty of behaviors we can change/implement in order to create better conditions for sleep to occur!

You might want to start by taking a look at my page on cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I).

          I hope this helps!
