Very informative and HOPEFUl post. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. I’m on day 2 of the course. After a string of difficult nights no arousal last night. Just starting the course seemed to relieve some of that hyper arousal. Thanks again!

I too have anxiety, Sleep insomnia. I was diagnosed a year and a half with a heart condition that required a pacemaker defibrillator, which intern helped me dramatically, but my mental state concerning this gave me severe anxiety. I am good now feel much better physically, however, the sleeping insomnia began the worrying at night. It’s been a year since this started I don’t really think I worry about my heart anymore. I have used every over-the-counter supplement over the last year some of which worked for a while and then stopped. I also began with the muscle twitches starting in my eye lid, then my arm and my thigh and my calf all over my body. I was twitching for several weeks, which was very frightening. I finally went to my primary doctor with all my symptoms, and he gave me Ativan to sleep at night, but I did not want to get dependent on a benzo. So then after more sleepless nights. my doctor prescribed me Q Vivek, which was almost like a miracle from day one for three full months I would fall asleep within a half hour after taking it and sleep seven hours through the night wake up refreshed without any side effects. Suddenly after three months, I would have a sleepless night here and there with the quviviq then suddenly stopped working completely. I was so disappointed so back to the doctor I go. I have been given another new sleep medication for anxiety and sleep, which I just started three nights ago. I do not seem to be getting much help with it yet so last week I decided to research the online program CBT – I. I just started it a week ago and just began sleep compression three nights ago which I have found to be very difficult but I’m going to try to hang in there at this point I am getting approximately 4 hours sleep.

Hi there. Thank you for your post. Our stories sound similar. I had sleep anxiety for 18 mo back in 2019. I mostly sleep well now but I do think I still have some ptsd because one bad night and I can really struggle. I don’t fret during the day but when I start to drift my mind will sometimes have a fear response of “you’re tired but what if you can’t sleep?” This can cause a relapse that can sometimes last a couple months. Any tips for that niggy little ptds voice that crops up as I drift off? It can be very frustrating.

              Hi.
How did you stop worrying about the time? That is currently my problem. I used to be up past 1 AM doing projects without a problem and now when I lay down all I can think about is the time. Thanks.

When my sleep window starts, I do not look at the time anymore. In fact I cover up the clocks in the rest of the house just before bed so I can’t see them until I get back. Just started working on the AWAKE exercise which helps you become at peace with night time wafefullness. I am on week 2 of Martin’s course.

I appreciate your reply. Even though I have my phone turned over, I get the urge to look at the clock and I give in sometimes. I need to stop that. I need to know what to do when awake. I try relaxing with meditations but they don’t always help. I tried reading a book and then I just stopped trying. Would love to hear what helps bring you peace at night as I am looking for my peace and I know that once I find it, I will sleep.

I am still a work in progress but believe the AWAKE exercise is going to help the more I practice it. Being kind to yourself is a big part of the process. The whole thing is knowing that even though you have a difficult night of sleep, you are going to do that things that bring you joy the next day. It is realizing that sleep does not have to affect our life as much as we think it does. At the very least I would recommend Martin’s free course to start with.
