      Hello

We are parents to our daughter Olivia who is 10 nearly 11. For the last 2 years now she needs mum or dad to lay with her until she is tired then once fallen asleep we have to creep out as to jot wake her. She will then wake around 1.30am and wants mum or dad to lay with her and repeatedly states she can’t get back to sleep. As soon as I go in and lay with her in her double bed she will sleep. We are at our wits end we have tried reward charts we have tried going in reassuring her, sitting on the edge of her bed nothing is working

I’m thinking of going to gp as I’m now getting anxious each night

      Thanks

        Karen,

I am no specialist and others forum visitors may have different opinion, but it sounds like your daughter doesn’t have typical insomnia issues, since she falls asleep easy when your are around. If she is scared to be alone at night, then perhaps, consultation with psychology specialist may be the most beneficial approach. Hopefully, it will be easier to treat than insomnia, which is a nasty thing.

Hello Karen! Unfortunately, this isn’t my area of expertise (and I suspect that none of our forum members have expertise in this area, either). I would suggest talking to your child’s pediatrician about your concerns.

          Good luck!
